DIY Halloween Tassel Earrings (with Googly Eyes!)

Eye have great news for you- Halloween is coming! Don’t turn a blind eye- add a little flair to your everyday outfits! You’ll SEE how many people enjoy it. Ok, I’m done with all the eye puns, but I have something really fun for you today! I always love adding some holiday accessories to my outfit, and it’s even better when they’re easy to make! These tassel earrings are so fun and easy that you can make a Halloween pair and then some basic ones for everyday. Don’t forget to pin them for later!

You will need:

Embroidery floss (similar here)
Beacon Gem-Tac (here)
Googly eyes (similar here and here)
Earring Hooks (similar here)
Jump ring (similar here)
Jewelry tools (similar here)
Scissors (similar here)
Toothpicks
Tweezers

Directions:

1. First, let’s create your tassels. For starters, pull a bit of embroidery floss out and cut 4 small-ish pieces. Mine were probably slightly longer than my pointer finger.

2. Thread one of the strings through the loop at the top of your embroidery floss and tie a knot. I made a double knot to ensure it didn’t come loose. Repeat for the bottom.

3. Take off the paper packaging that’s holding your embroidery floss in shape, and tie a knot at the top. Mine was about a fingertip’s width (not length) from the top. Repeat on the other bottom, making sure that they are the same size.

4. Fold the embroidery floss in half to find the center, and then carefully cut across in a straight line to create two separate tassels.

5. Optional: Comb out your embroidery floss so that your tassels are a little bit thinner and it looks less like embroidery floss! You can see how that looks here.

6. Now that your tassels are made, it’s time to make the earring! Attach a jump ring to the top of your tassel by looping it through the first string you tied at the top. Then, loop your earring hook through and close it. You want to make sure that the knots are at the back, so figure that out before you put the earring hook on.

7. Get a scrap of paper, and place some GemTac on it. Take a toothpick and place a small dab of glue on your tassels, then use tweezers to place your tiny googly eye onto your glue. Repeat until you have enough tiny google eyes to fill the top. For the larger googly eye, you can probably just use hot glue.

DIY Tassel Halloween Pins

Halloween is coming. This is not a drill! I am SO excited since it’s one of my favorite holidays. Did you know that my husband hates Halloween? So, that means that I need to pick up the slack and celebrate twice as hard. As you’ve probably realized, I’m not a huge fan of black and spooky things, so I need to work a little harder to fulfill my Halloween desires in my chosen color palette. That results in a whole lot of DIY’s and I ain’t complaining about it! I also love love love tassels, so I figured why not bring them together? This little pin is perfect for Halloween but can also be adapted to basic fall colors! It would also be really fun to make for your child’s teacher or a coworker that loves fall.

You will need:

Wood Halloween shapes ( here or similar here)
Acrylic paint (similar here)
Embroidery floss (similar here)
Glue gun (similar here)
Scissors (similar here)
Pin backs (similar here)

Directions:

1. Paint your wood pieces in your choice of colors. I did just one coat, then let it dry. I recommend doing the edges first, then placing it down and painting the front. For one of the pumpkins, I painted only the edge and I left another natural wood. The choice is entirely yours!

2. While the paint dries, create your tassels. I used a 7/8” piece of cardboard for mine. To learn how to make tassels, refer to this blog post. Remember, you don’t want them to be too thick/chunky so that they lay flat against your pumpkin and, therefore, your shirt. Make sure you don’t trim the little string at the top- we’ll need some length to glue it on! *In the blog post I linked, I had combed the tassels but for this one I didn’t. The choice is yours!

3. If you want to add some faces to your wood shapes, now is the time! Use a toothpick and dab the paint on. For the ghost, I keep it simple with tiny dots for eyes and cheeks, with a small smile. On the cat, I just added a pink heart for the nose. You can also add googly eyes if you prefer!

4. Decide on the order you want, then glue your tassels onto the back of your pumpkin using your glue gun. Trim down the excess floss at the top.

5. Glue your pin onto the back of your pumpkin, covering the excess floss from the tassels.

Wear and enjoy. Show off your Halloween love to everyone you meet!

You’ll probably be finding this pin on my lapel until October 31, when I’ll take it off and switch to a Halloween costume! I’m so excited to celebrate this second Halloween with Hailey. Her first Halloween she was only a month old and definitely wasn’t aware of anything that happened. I can’t believe a year has already gone by and she’s so big!  You’re definitely tired of hearing me say that, but I probably won’t stop. It’s insanity. I mean, look at how tiny she was in her first blog post debut.

The Babe With The Power Halloween Onesie

It's no secret I love Halloween, but this year I had newborn Hailey and she made me slow WAY down. I could barely get anything done once she arrived, but I am not complaining! I love just sitting watching tv while she sleeps in my arms. But hey, the show must go on and Halloween wasn't going to wait for anyone! If you're a fellow newborn momma like me, or even just have kids, you may be looking for something super easy to get into the spooky season like I am. Lucky for you, these onesies are SO easy to make. You literally just need an iron and some iron-on paper!

So, truth time- I had no idea where this quote even came from. Turns out, its from a David Bowie song but I thought it was super appropriate for a newborn at Halloween. Because let’s face it, babies call ALL the shots, and Halloween is all about spooky magic. So, snag your FREE printable, and make this cute onesie for your babe! So I’m not at all biased, but I gotta say that Hailey makes the very cutest little model. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows though- she cried a lot at first, then she spit up all over the backdrop, then wouldn’t stay in position. BUT I think these pics came out super cute! Plus I got some funny gems like this one.

DIY Heartburn Dragon Maternity Costume

When I realized I’d be pregnant just before Halloween, I knew I had to do a costume blog post! I was kinda hoping for a whole set of them, but sadly I didn’t leave enough time for brainstorming and I ended up racing against the clock just to do this one. It was completed less than a week before my due date, and baby came a day early! I got the idea when I woke up one night with terrible heartburn. It feels like you’re breathing fire and that’s when it hit me- a dragon costume! Might as well put those terrible side effects to good use, right?

This costume is super easy and cheap to make, which is perfect for any expectant momma. You can also add it to a maternity dress without ruining it by using safety pins, which makes it perfect for being frugal. Plus, you can use any color dress you have or even a t-shirt and pants, or a hoodie. Really, whatever you have at home would work! Plus it’s actually pretty funny and super comfortable.

You will need:

Green Dress (similar here)
Felt (similar here)
Ribbon (similar here)
Colored cardstock (similar here)
Wooden skewer (similar here)
Glue gun (similar here)
Scissors (similar here)
Safety pins (optional)

Directions- Dress

1. Measure a piece of ribbon going down the back of your dress. It can go all the way down, or only to a certain point. The choice is yours. I went with just above my booty so it would be comfy to sit in!

2. Start cutting triangles out of your felt. You’ll want 2 of each piece. You can either randomly cut triangles, then trace the same shape to make a copy, or fold your felt in half and cut the triangle so you end up with 2 identical pieces.

3. Line up your triangles on either side of your ribbon. Make sure all your spikes are facing the same way! What we’re going to do is glue them down so that they stick up on the ribbon.

4. Starting at either the top or the bottom of your ribbon, take your triangle and add a line of glue to the “bottom” edge, aka the one facing the ribbon.

5. Place the triangle down to glue it onto the ribbon. You want it to be laying down across the ribbon, over to the other side. Once it’s cooled, fold it back over to the side and add another line of glue, then press the other side of the next triangle onto the ribbon. You should now have two flaps facing each other.

6. Glue the flaps shut, and repeat all the way up the ribbon for all your spikes.

7. Once you’re done, you can either glue these spikes to your dress or safety pin them on so you can wear the dress again normally!

Directions- Fire

1. Pick out the colors for your fire. I used red and 2 shades of orange.

2. Draw a flame shape on your first piece of cardstock. In retrospect, I kinda wish it was a little thinner so it looked more like I was breathing it out, but you can do whatever you like for the shape!

3. Cut out the shape you drew, then place it on the next paper. You want to be sure the pencil edge is facing up (so you have a good side and a bad side that both match), then trace a larger version of your fire onto the next paper. Cut it out, and repeat again. Then, flip them all over and stack them in size order.

4. Glue your layers together, trimming as needed so they fit well together. I added glue to the bottom edge and left the flame side unglued so it would dance and look like it was moving when I waved it!

5. Glue your flames onto a wooden skewer. For safety, I cut off the pointy edge with some scissors.

Hah don’t mind these silly posed photos- 39 weeks preggo and had to have my husband help with the pics. He was pleased as punch and I was pretty much ready to plop my butt back on the couch. But, now that I don’t have this bump anymore I’m missing it- go figure!

DIY Pretty Floral Pumpkins for Fall

Happy Fall! While I can’t believe that summer is over, I am so glad that it’s finally fall! The fall is my absolute favorite season, and I have an extra reason to love it now- baby girl was born in the fall! Since I had to keep things minimal this year (cuz, you know… newborns are hard!), I decided not to decorate. BUT I created this really pretty floral pumpkin for Pinhole Press! If I can only have one decoration up, it should be a showstopper, right?! You can find the DIY on their blog here!

This pumpkin was super quick and easy to make! I got all my supplies from Michael’s and whipped it up in about an hour. It’s the perfect glam fall DIY for your home. Plus you can make it in any color you want so you can match your decor!
